This was the final round
for the King Of The Colne trophy and Cliff drew the
flier on the point, seeing as he was only 1 point
behind Kevin going into the match he ran to the peg,
Kev never turned up anyway so he was alright, he
had 4 Chub and bits for his weight on maggot and
waggler, this gave him the KOC title and he as reminded
me that he wants the trophy to take home, i must
have kept one previously.
Well done Cliff it was
a good result with 174 points from a possible 180.
Derek was second and in the frame yet again, he
has had some season as the results section will
show you, he drew Dolphin Bridge and also had Chub
with bits for his weight.
I was on the back stream
which was very low and clear so i was pleased to
pick up a couple of Chub and some decent roach on
the waggler with maggot, i had the usual problem
with the little snappy pike, this time they took
a liking to my waggler and i had 2 bitten off, funny
diet them pike are on.
So we look forward to
next seasons matches, the full match calender for
next year will be put on here shortly.
I would like to thank all the members who supported
the matches as we had some terrific turnouts and
good days with the usual laughs.
If you fancy it come
along to them next year, you dont have to be Bob
Nudd to enjoy the day out and any advice on the draw
is freely given, and at the end of the day it is
good fun to see the mystery weight, and also to let
the boys know as they talk of the ones that got away,
You Cant Beat Bad Luck
So look forward to seeing
a few new faces next season.

We fished this match
with the usual crew from Twyford Valley A.S, three
or them were top weights on the day with 7-2-0 which
came to caster over chopped worm for a better stamp
of fish, also a couple of 5 pound weights.
There were a lot of weights in the 3 and 4 pound and
all came to various baits, with Punch, Bloodworm and
Sqautt being the most productive.
Dont forget you can fish
this venue in the close season and if you want to
sharpen up your skills on the pole this is the place
to do it as there are loads of fish to be had.
Brian won our match,
but he is down there so much he is on first name terms
with the boat owners, i am sure they think he is off
one of the boats.
This was another occasion
when 26 of us fished, so it goes to show with the
right venue and a couple of clubs doubling up it can
be like the good old days with turnouts.
I would like to thank
Vic from Twyford for running the matches we have with
them as it lets me dip in the bag instead of having
what is left, also Mick for pegging the match on the
morning, that's why he is short walking up and down
the canal all day.
Just the one match to
go lets hope with finish with a good one.

We switched this match
from Hampton Poyle as the Cherwell was still running
to hard, i did not go as i was fishing and looking
at another water.
It fished very hard and
with a walk off all the guys who fished had good areas,
Brian went onto peg 24 and had 3 chub for his weight
on the pole and maggot, he was brave because that's
the swim Steve Hardy broke his pole on a Barbel in
the charity match.
Derek crept up to the
point swim and also had 3 chub on the waggler, Dave
fished on the backstream for a few bits.
The 4 or 5 others who
fished blanked, it was just one of them days with
the frost in the morning not helping.
Martin went to a swim he had 4 chub for 21-1-0 only
2 weeks prior and never had a bite, cant beat bad
luck.

It may be me but the
person running the pegging on the day just happened
to get one of the pegs that is fishing most consistent
at the moment, dodgy or what.
That man being Martin
Harper who drew on the point peg 11, he had 7 Chub
and about 2 pound of bits on the waggler and maggot.
Terry drew peg 53 on
the backwater and had 2 Chub and bits, Richard was
on the mill pool and he was so glad he drew well for
a change, then nearly blew it by hooking and loosing
a good Chub in the first 20 minutes, but they came
back and he had a few for his weight on maggot.
As you know this was
the charity match so go to the

It was the same old story
for round 2 of the KOC if you drew on the backstream
you had a chance of a few fish, if you drew the main
river which was as high as i have seen it for some
years you were in for a bad day.
Dan got peg 53 down from the lawn and had small fish
for most of the day with 2 late bonus chub.
Keith was on the lawn
and a shoal of roach and dace seem to be just sitting
there for the winter, he had all his fish on the punch
which was suprising seeing the colour of the water, he
alos had the regular little snappy pike taking a few
fish.
Cliff was in the sluice
which was going through just right and coloured, he
had 1 Chub about 4-0-0 and roach, also on the punch. We
tried with a few new pegs on the backstream and they
all looked really good, but the fish just were not
playing on the day.
Willy hooked and lost
4 big chub in the mill pool, cant beat bad luck
Willy boy.
Myself and Derek drew
on the main river, when i looked at it Saturday doing
the pegs they were spot on, come Sunday morning and
an extra 6 inches of water they were dire, i
went home at 1-00 after not a touch, and feeling not
well, Derek stuck with it for 2 ounces of minnows,
so that shows how hard it was.
Martin was on peg 47
and foul hooked a fish and never weighed it in, well
it was a 1-5-0 Cherbumpkin, if i spelt it wrong its
a big goldfish, so someone is a bit light in
the fish pond department around the area.
Richard smith drew his
normal flier on the KOC, then went home, he wants
4 matches next year so he can have a chance of perhaps
getting 1 good peg.
Next match is the teams
of 4 charity match, you can still send in to sponsor
me on the day if you wish, lets hope the river is
in better nick for it.

I was not on this match
as a friend of mine decided to get his little cherubs
christened, i ask you a christening on a Sunday, the
fishing sabbath, i tried to convince him to be different
and have it on a weekday but to no avail.
Still the report went like this, draw back water catch
fish full stop.
It went to Brian on the
day who fished next to the elliott bridge near the
lawn, he had all small fish on the maggot and punch,
Willy was on the lawn and fished similar again with
all small fish.
Kevin was on the point
and had 3 Chub late on for 3rd, the main river was
a bit out of sorts again but that's no surprise as
one day it is belting with rain and the next minus
2, so the fish just dont settle down with changing
water conditions.
Keith Arthur fished the
match and had 3-5-0 from a swim in the sluice.
There was a buffet after
in the Dolphin for the prizes to be given out, and
i am told that it was very good, i would like to thank
Derek for getting that arranged and for Noel for doing
us proud again, i hope to get at least a sandwich
on the teams of 4 match, if i get in before will and
no one has another christening.

Hes only gone and done
again the little so and so, Derek drew one of the
fliers on the day peg 11 and was the only person
fishing who was out of the wind and had it to help
him cast up to the tree on the point swim.
He fed the fish to down in front of him and had 6
Chub 3 of which went 13-0-0 and 3 went 9-0-0
and also 4 pound of roach and dace, all the fish coming
to maggot.
I was pegged next to
him on 13, the wind was so bad that i cast and
the wind blew my stick float back up the river,
and the bits of tress hitting your brolley did not
make for comfortable fishing.
Kevin was on peg 54,
the lawn, which is where Martin won from last week,
he had a terrific day with all his fishing being under
6 inches and coming to the punch then maggot on the
whip to hand, he though he had pipped Derek but the
old fox proved just to good on the day.
Brian was on peg 53
and had 1 chub and bits for most of the day on maggot,
the main river was out of sorts and all the anglers
on the back water seemed to have more fish.
If it was not for the
mystery prize i think a few of us would have been
in the pub before the match finished.
We had to put in a few pegs that we would not normally
but it seemed justified when John 2 hats Dean had
some nice Roach out of the sluice swim number 7, he
also had a pike keeping him company, he should of
sung to it like he normally does, that would have
got rid of it.
It was nice to see Nobby
Bridle back up and out fishing as he had a bout of
pneumonia over the past few weeks, after this weeks
weather he may catch it again, nice to have you back
Nobbler.
Dont forget the next
match is the fur and feather, so bring along a prize
and have a good days fishing, Keith Arthur may be
putting in an appearance, i hope he draws well
as he seems to pick some dodgy swims, well that's Keiths
excuse anyway.

This match was switched
to the Colne at the island due to the Cherwell being
over its bank in places.
We done it as a walk off and Martin drew high so decided
to go onto the lawn, a bit iffy seeing as the colour
had dropped out of the river, but he had small fish
all day for his weight, by small i mean nearly all
bleak and about 2 hundred fish, who said there are
no fish in the river.
He also had a young
lady sitting behind him for most of the match reading
a book, she arranged to visit him and i am sure this
spurred him on to do well, it also stopped us throwing
Derek in, as you can see he came second with 3 Chub
from a downstream peg, he lost a couple of fish, i
think on purpose so he did not go for a swim, not
really.
Bob went onto the back
stream and caught most of the day, he would have got
more if not for the usual little snappy pike in that
swim, they attack anything that moves and can be a
right nuisance, still it gave Bob something to moan
about as he seems to have gone quiet lately.
So the next one is the
1st round of the JIm Mullenger King of the Colne which
will be more poignant this time with the sad loss
of Jim and i hope we have a good turnout in his Memory.

Derek as done it again,some
people ask me if he is the only one on the matches
and i make the other names up.
He is just having one of those years where he is doing everything
right and it is paying off.
He drew low and headed above the railway bridge and fished the
shallows, it was very difficult on the day with a downstream wind
and it was hard to present your tackle very well.
Derek had 4 chub around the 3 to 4 pound mark and a few smaller
ones all on maggot, if he wins the next match there will be queue
forming behind him to throw him in.
Willy went down to nearly the end of the stretch,
that's some hike i can tell you, ask Roy Perry
he went down there to weigh
Brian in once and needed an iron lung when he got back, he
had a bream of 2 pound and a few skimmers and roach, again on the
maggot.
Richard done his normal went to 3 or 4 swims then
dropped in above me and had a chub of 4-8-0 and
a few bits for his weight, i was near the railway
bridge and had a few small fish and a pike that
took a liking to my lead weights attacking them as i wound in,
this was after getting home the night before at 1-30 and Bob coming
to pick me up at 5-30, i must leave that fosters alone.
Ross had a pike actually attack a leaf he had hooked
and bit him off, this was after Ross had got back
out after falling in,
cant beat bad luck Ross.
Still, heres to the next Derek Turton benevolent
fund match which is at Hampton Poyle, if you want
to see grown men cry when he wins
why not pop along.

We fished this match
with Twyford Valley and there was a turnout of 31
anglers, it was great to see the Arm never let us
down.
Brian drew just past the kissing gate on the towpath
and fished 2 whips to hand with various baits and
had nearly all roach, he spends so much time down
there i think he is on first name terms with people
on the boats.
Steve was this side of the gates and did not fancy
his swim at all at the start as that section was
very clear but this did not put the fish off and
he caught most of the day, also on different baits.
Derek fished mainly the waggler and had a bit of
a lean spell because of pike trouble or he would
have caught more, he had most of his fish on big
maggot.
There was a Twyford member splitting the top 2
with 7-12-0 but as he was not in our club i left
it off the results section.
Brian Eggleton won the senior citizen trophy with
3-12-0.
The first section did not fish very well but this
threw up 2 of the first 4 the week before, so it
shows how the fish can move around on this venue,
it is well worth a visit even when the water turns
a bit colder normally Bread Punch and squatt will
do well with big maggot for the better fish.
Make sure you have your I.D. with you as there
will be a day ticket charge if not.

We done our usual when
we get on one of these lakes, caught it when
they dropped the level by about 8 feet, and after
they had a 3 day festival on there with 110 pegs
a day.
To
say we were a bit unlucky was an understatement,
you would normally need 150 to 200 pound to win on
this venue.
Danny drew an end peg and had a lot of his fish before
another club came along a bit later and fished the
next section.
He fished method feeder with different baits, as
did nearly all the anglers on the day with only about
18 inches of water 15 yards out.
Sam
also had an end peg, he is partially sighted so had
Danny behind him to help him with tying knots
and other bits, we put Sam on the end peg to give
him room, then when we drew no one drew any of the
4 pegs next, to him he was sitting there like Billy
no mates.
All i saw Danny doing all day was eating, i think
he got a bit peckish watching Sam get them carp
in.
Sam also had his fish on the method.
Richard was 3rd with carp also, and nearly lost a
rod when he had waited a while for a bite and went
to grab a sandwich, off went the rod, i think it
was because he could see Danny and he got hungry
as well.
19 anglers turned up with 4 of them being guests,
it was nice to see that no one moaned about giving
Sam his peg and help him have a day out in match
for a change, thanks for that lads and i know Sam
would like to thank you as he enjoyed it a lot.
If he can catch like that,i am going to wear a blindfold
next time i go to this lake and nick some of Dans
grub..

Due to the canal being
very clear we switched this match to another venue,
if you look at the result i think you can guess where
it was to.
Yes, the one Derek dont like Wraysbury. Derek drew
nearly last and where he would normally fish was
taken with a few of the boys trying to beat him for
a change on here, not to be out done he went straight
to another swim and still gave us a
tanking.
He
had his usual skimmers, i think they are all on first
name terms with him, and a few roach on the maggot,
he was on the road bank in the deeper section.
I did not mind as i drew him in the pairs.
Mike was on the island
and had 1 Bream for his weight, i should have disqualified
him for lying, as when i went to weigh him in he
told me he had 1 skimmer, some skimmer, if Dereks
skimmers were like that he would weigh in over the
ton.
Dave started on the
road bank at the far end and had just a couple of
small fish, than moved back up nearer the culverts
for his weight.
The shallow side of
the lake did not produce at all, with 4 of us in
row with only 6 fish between us, i blanked, nothing
new there then i hear you say, i sat it out on the
feeder all day.
If you are to go for a days fishing in the next
week or so i would advise the deeper swims on the
road side as they are producing well at the moment.
my excuse.

Brian drew pretty low
and heading off to the noted swim at the Thame mouth,
at least he did not nearly have a fight with someone
fishing the peg like i did the previous year.
He fished the pole for
his weight with hemp and tares and maggot being best
on the day,he had mainly roach with some of them
not far off the pound mark.
Derek was just up from
the houses and caught small fish most of the day,
he did not bring his wraysbury skimmers with him.
Bob was just up a bit
from Brian and had most of his fish on the feeder
to red maggot.
We were told that the
river was clear and a few of us went with liquidised
and punch and did not take so much maggot, when we
got there you could not see the bottom after 2 feet
out so it was a bit of bum info there, well that's

We switched this match
to Wraysbury as the booked venue as been fishing really
badly.
It seems that I can only spell Dereks name as
he has been winning so often.
He was on the shallow
bank and had a nice bag of skimmers with a few
roach, he fished the waggler over groundbait with
maggot, he would of done a lot better as he only had
2 fish between 1-30 and 4-00 when we finished.
Bob was on his favourite
island swim and had skimmers for his weight, his tench
did not show this week, I think he brings it
with him, he also had darty fishing the island with
him, so that was the kiss of death as he walked around
to see Derek at 1-30 and read above to see what happened
to his swim.
I was on the road side and had a few roach and perch
for about 2-8-0 and a Tench and an eel which together
went 9-1-0.
This venue is fishing
very well at the moment with a lot of styles producing
fish, if you are going for a visit give me ring and
i will let you know what areas are fishing..

This was our yearly
trip to this venue on the Thames and as usual
we got it at the wrong time with it going through
like a train, or faster than some trains if you
have been on British Rail lately.
Derek drew at the
top end of the section and had most of his fish
on a big stick float in about 12 feet of water,
about 6 BB was needed to get any control with
the pace, he fed mainly with the bait dropper
and had 1 Chub of about 2-0-0 and the rest was
made up of mainly Roach and Perch. I watched him
for a while and it was hard work, who said fishing
was relaxing.
Pete was further
down the stretch and had a lot of pike trouble
all day, or he may have been closer to Dereks
weight, he had mainly Roach on the pole and stick
float.
Willy had his weight
from the bottom section aswell, he also had Roach
and Perch.
It fished very hard
otherwise with some slack areas unfishable due
to weed, and other areas 15 feet deep so you were
forced onto the feeder but needed grip leads to
hold bottom.
Never mind we may
hit it right next year.

This venue fished
very well as you can see from the result,we also
had quite a few boys with seventy and sixty pound
bags on the day. Dickie fished close to the edge
for most of his fish and they seemed to like Willies
peg better as that is where they headed when Dick
hooked them on the next peg, he also lost a lot
of fish and said they should come with a health
warning as they really do put up a fight on this
lake, he had some on the pole then switched to
running line to get them in a bit quicker, i think
he could scratch his ankle without bending down
after the match his arm was that stretched.
Corn and pellet
was the main bait on the day. We knew Richard
must of started getting fish as he went quiet
in the last hour and a half, which is unusual, and
you just saw his elastic coming out from behind
a bush as he was getting his fish on the pole
with paste, he had one that was close to 18 pounds
so you can see you dont fish light. He only had 1
fish at 2,o,clock and was moaning across the lake
that it was not fishing well.
Brian had all his fish on the feeder with pellet.
I think we all lost a few fish, Geoff French was
adamant he was not going to lose his second fish
of the day after waiting a fair while for a bite,
he lent out to stop it going in the reeds and
slipped on the platform, i only heard the splash
and the swearing, then the others laughing as
he walked to his car for a change of clothes,
he still got the fish in though. He should have
let it go and said it was so big it pulled him
in.
Another turn up
on the day was sat nav cooper never got lost,
he also had 2 pound of perch again with a carp
of 6 pound, and the best thing was he got his
priorities right as it was his fortieth wedding
anniversary, she must love him to send him fishing,
unless she had done a runner when Bob got home.
I must thank Dave Dorsett, Richard Smith and Alan
Lainie who i think pegged the lake just right
on the day and once people had sussed out the
best way to fish the swims most had a good day.
Also thanks to Willy who fed me from Mc donalds
on the morning, and Dan for copping the rubbish
in the back of his van.

This match was transferred
from the Cherwell to the Colne in Uxbridge as
the Cherwell was somewhere in the field.
Brian fished on the main river and had 8 Chub
on maggot for his weight, all on the pole, when
i weighed him in the fish were spitting up hemp
and tares but Brian never fished them so it goes
to show how they munch on what we think was thrown
in the day before.
I was on the point
and had 8 Chub also, i dont think i would have
had any if Bob Hawes had not come up and told
me how to fish the swim, as it can be a bit difficult,
he only told me because we go half each on
the pools.
Brian was on the
back water down from the lawn and had mainly
bits for his weight, he nearly started early
and would of been thrown out the match, that must
be why he does well, he gets an extra 30 mins
on us, lucky Bob put him straight.
Martin had a good
bag of fish just below the bridge for 11-3-0,
he said that he had 4 barbel that all together
only weighed about a pound, this is a good sign
for breeding in the river.
Neil drew no 1, and
was first away, and went to a peg he has fished this
season, he has got a golden arm that boy
he draws the flyers on other matches.
I have not seen someone
go to a peg with as much fervour, than when
my mates jack russell tried to mount a lion
in Trafalger Square, it did not do him any good
he only had a few bits.
Cliff gave Bob a
parking ticket for bringing along someone too
short to be in the front seat, namely me, i bit
and was ready to phone the council, nice
one Cliff.

Wraysbury fished
well again this week with big fish needed to
get in the frame.
Bob fished one of
the island swims and had 2 nice Tench the best
going 8-10-0 (see pic) and also a lot of skimmers
and roach, bobs
old pacemaker went into overdrive when he
hooked the big Tench on 4 pound line and it took
him all over the place before he got it in,
He fished red maggot and corn.
Brian also had big
fish with his weight being just 2 fish, a carp
of 10-0-0 and a bream of 7-5-0, he was on the
road bank and fished pellet and red maggot.
Cliff was on the
shallow bank on the right of the lake and had
a carp, 2 tench and some bits, again mainly on
the red maggot.
Derek put together
a good weight of 13-7-0 of skimmers and roach,
he just pipped me as i had 2 bream for 13-7-0
one of the bream going 8-1-0. Some areas fished
a bit hard, which included some swims that had
produced really well in the
week but if you go to wraysbury there is some
terrific sport to be had if the fish play the
game.
Don't forget you
can rake your swim, just remember to put any
weed pulled out back away from your swim
as it mings a bit when it rots down, bit like
my socks.
Off to first match
on the rivers next week,
thats if the rain allows, this time last
year you could walk across the rivers in trainers
and not get your ankles wet, i think i may take
the dry suit in case its a bit up..

Dave done well from
a section not normally favoured on this venue,
he had 10 Carp for his weight, with some coming
to the feeder and a few to surface fished
dog biscuit. Ross fished similar tactics, again
from a swim he did not fancy. Martin had mainly
Bream in his bag for 3rd spot most coming on the
pole, with a few foul hooked fish spooking the
swim for long periods i think he would have done
a lot better.
Bob sat nav Cooper
done his usual and got lost, he also wants us
to let the person with the most fish win the match,
i wonder if that is because he fished for little
perch all day and had 1 bream of 2-0-0 and
the rest of his 10-0-0 weight was perch.
Willy did his normal
with taking his top off to catch the sun, i dont
think anyone ate their dinner after that sight.
The score for lost gear was carp,1 top 3, and
1 rescued rod, i sat next to Richard Smith all
day and he must have set up 5 different rods to
fish, lucky he can make his mind up and stick
to it (not)
We had 17 fishing
on the day and we could have had 22 but this venue
is a bit cramped for that.
This is a nice fair venue and can be fished on
day tickets go to Cemexangling.com
for details.
Don't forget next

At the start we had
to ask 3 member to leave the venue, so please
look at your venue sheets
to make sure you dont turn up until the match
on that day as finished.
We were shown how
to do it by Mark, it was his first match with
the club and he fished a swim he had fished the
day previous, out went the bait , rod in the optonics,
read book, wait for bite, how easy is that.
But really Mark done
very well with his weight being a lake record
for this venue, he feeder fished on the road bank,
with red maggot, and fed with a spod, he had 6
tench to 7-0-0 see photo, and 1 bream that was
not far off that weight.
The match was a walk off, i dont think his peg
will be vacant if he draws number 16 next time.
Derek was on the shallow side of the lake and
had skimmers and perch for his weight.
Stuart had his one
bream late on and put me into fourth place, he
told me it was a skimmer, some skimmer.
At least we all had fish this week after last
weeks disaster.
We now have Neill
Payne fishing with us, he is now affectionetly
known as brains,as he looks like the guy from
the thunderbirds when he has his fishing hat on,
he weighed in 4 ounces and put it down on the
result sheet as a bad day at the office.
Fishermans Cabin
where Mark gets his bait are doing a deal for
the members who fish our matches for optonics
and spod rods, as Steve Hardy said if we cant
beat him we may aswell join him, books are optional.
This venue is fishing well at the moment and is
well worth a visit.

We went to this venue
after good reports from the tailend of last, what
a mistake.
It fished terrible with only 7 out of 15 anglers
catching and even then it was only 13 fished weighed
in total.
Bob had 2 bream for his winning weight and Richard
had 2 just a bit smaller, Dave bagged up with
3 fish.
The food was great,
you ordered it when you got there and she brought
it to your peg.
I had a sausage roll,it was the only bite i had
all day.
It was blowing a
gale and raining all the time we were there, it
got really muddy, Steve Hardy went for a walk
around the lake and came back 3 inches taller
with all the mud sticking to him.
John Deane hit it
on the head he stated that it was so muddy the
fish were stuck to the bottom.
We will not be going back in Sept, if we did i
would be sitting there like billy no mates.

Nobby was drawn on
the point at the top of the sluice and lost a
big barbel early on and was swearing a bit,
but then proceeded to have 5 chub up to 5-0-0
with a small barbel for his winning weight. He
fished the feeder with bronze maggot. I was 2nd
with 2 chub from the millpool 1 of which went
5-6-0 and lost a bigger one in the morning, i
never swore like naughty Nobby, also to bronze
maggot. Cliff drew on the lawn and had the best
weight from there for a while, with 3 chub and
a few bits, he done enough to win the king of
the colne trophy, he gave me the brown envelope
i asked for but he forgot to put anything in it,
silly boy.
It was a bad day
with pouring rain and very windy, the main river
fished very bad with a lot of extra water pushing
through, and bits were hard to come by in the
backstream. Willy said i have to say something
nice about him for a change, seeing as he went
down to mc,donalds for a coffee i will. He is
so nice he gave me and Bob half of one of his
3 sausages in the cafe on the morning, it still
left him with, double egg, double bacon, mushrooms
and fried slice so thats how nice he is, he was
willing to starve for us.
This was our

to Bob Hawes for always being around to

Russel was fishing
his first ever match and drew 44 on the apple
tree, a big fish peg, he was advised to sit
it out for a few bites, he did that alright with
his weight being 3 fish, 2 Barbel and one Chub
the Barbel to over 8 pound.
Obviously he was invited to take a wrong turn
for the next match, but seriously he done very
well on the day to get them fish from a peg where
they are not easy to get in.
Lee was runner from
the noted peg on dolphin bridge with mainly roach
in his catch, he had a bit of pike trouble on
the day, but his girlfriend dropped him off with
his little lunch box so he never starved.
She cant love him that much as she never carried
his gear to his peg.
Cliff was third from
peg 13 near the point, he is leading the king
of the colne at present but some members have
asked me to phone him before the next one and
tell him it as been changed to another date, i
wont do that to you Cliff, unless the little brown
envelope appears.
It was a bit of a
struggle on some pegs as it went a bit cold the
previous night and took a bit of colour out of
the river.
But the good thing was the turnout of 27 anglers
which for a club match is very good.
I drew one of the
iffy pegs we had to put in so that is my excuse,
i think the king of the colne is the only match
trophy i have not won with the club, but
with my luck in the draw bag i never will.

This was a great
day with 30 anglers dipping into the bag, it was
nice that Twyford come along with 20 of them as
they had not fished this canal before. Bob won
the match from a peg he did not want at the start,
he had most of his fish on the punch over liquidised, his
weight was made up of all Roach with some near
the pound mark.
Vic from Twyford
fished the same and had his fish at only 2 metres
out. Sean of Twyford had his fish to sqautt over
groundbait, all the first 5 were in the first
section near the marina and the gaps which
had a bit of colour in the water.
As we went along
it got a bit harder with some anglers having low
weights due to the water being very clear.
Brian Dart won the top section with 5-12-0 of
perch on worm, and i won the middle section
with 3-1-0 of roach on the punch, i did not have
a bite on the punch until 2-10 and the match
ended at 3-30 so it shows what a good bit of water
this is for qaulity roach.
There was also a
strange visitor in my peg as you will see from
the photo, it was a crab which i got out with
the landing net, i have been informed it may be
a mitten crab so have let the E.A know. Mick from
Twyford tried to take it out of the net and got
a nip for his troubles, so i got it out with a
size 8, hence the flattened look of the crab.

The match at Dorchester
was won by Steve with a lot of small fish
in a slack area near the Thame mouth, the main
river was going through like a rocket and it was
near impossible to hold bottom anywhere.
We was all forced
to look for slacks when picking where to fish.
Roy had all bleak for his weight, and i had a
few bleak and perch for mine. I ended up fishing
2 feet from the bank to get steady water.
It was the G.X curse
again as the river fished great the week before
with 12 pound needed to get in the frame, then
when we get it they run all the water off and
it was nearly over the banks, oh well can't beat
bad luck.

Dave done very well
to get his weight as the canal was very clear,
you could see almost to the other side in some
areas, and some swims were very weedy. Dave fished
a small waggler with sqaut, as the fish spooked
very easily when he put a pole over the top of
them, he had some good roach, with smaller ones
and perch making up his total.
Brian was put into
2nd on the results page beacause he is older than
Derek and won the senior citzens cup with
his fish, ha also caught mainly small fish on
the sqaut.
Derek lost a couple
of good fish, one of which was a lumpy
perch which he lost at the net, as i told him
staight away as he swore, you cant beat bad luck,
i dont think he agreed, as i ducked from a ball
of grounbait.
Bob (sat nav ) done
a good one, he never put his lid on properly on
his bait tin and the whole lot went over in the
back of Phils new 56 reg motor. Bob said it was
alright though as he counted how many he
had in there, and he thinks they were all back
in the box,yeah right.

This match got off
to a bad start, with it pouring with rain and
Brian Dart in control of the brolly over my head
trying to keep the draw board dry, and my flowing
locks, he did not get a lot of help from
our fellow anglers trying for the record
of how many anglers under one umbrella. When we
actually started fishing it got very hot.
Dan (who is a new
member) and beat me with big fish again, had 2
Chub of about 3-0-0 each in his winning weight,
he had to stand on his box to land one of them
as he was on no 2 elastic, for non pole anglers
that is very very light.
He also had a few bits for the rest of his weight,
its nice to see new members attending and doing
well.
I did not have a bite until 11-30 then caught
some quality roach on the punch, then a pike got
hungry and my swim died a bit. I was also
feeding hemp, and the roach were spitting it up
,but i could not get a touch on it when i put
it on the hook.
Keith was 3rd with
all roach on the punch, he caught nearly all day
but they were quite small, except for the perch
he had take a small roach, and head for the other
side of the canal. The top section did not fish
very well, which is strange as that is normally
where you need to be. I have put a photo of my
roach on the web, this is not sore grapes to Dan,
it was just that i forgot to take the camera when
i weighed him in, honest. And also you can see
my flowing locks as mentioned earlier in
the picture, i combed my hair from memory as Dave
Allen reminded me last week.
Dan and Keith won the pairs trophy with a combined
weight of 13-3-0

This venue fished
poorly with a few people catching a fish in the
first 20mins and not having a bite for the rest
of the match.
It was nice for Dave to finally win a match
as he has supported the club on many of the
carp venues. He had 8 carp on the method feeder,
lucky i let you stay in that peg Dave, he did
not have a fish until 12-00, then Geoff French
went around to see his oppo, and Dave started
catching when he was there, obviously Geoff thinks
it was something to do with him, Dave thinks otherwise,
he put it down to skill.
Kevin was in a corner
peg and only had 4 fish for his weight on
the pole, he also lost a few lumps, no not sugar, Carp.
Lee had 6 fish on the feeder, and done his normal
strip off to his undies as it got hot, when
he turned around i thought i saw a ghost,but
it was not Ivan Marks, it was his brother skid.
This venue had a
fish kill in july, which was probably why it fished
a bit grim.
The problem being with these places is i
have to book them a year in advance so we have
to take pot luck when we turn up. Still we all
had a laugh as usual.

Willy had mostly
Roach on the hemp and tares, with a few Perch
on the red maggot. If you believed him halfway
through the match he was supposed to have had
30 pound, i think a new rule about little white
ones needs to come in. Still it stopped him walking
about and throwing groundbait at me.
Garry Young came
along to show us how it should be done but Willy
just pipped him,Garry being match group captain
and drawing a flyer on the day (oh dear). Garry
had mainly roach aswell, also Dave Dorsett another
match group member whos swim was around 14 foot
deep had Roach and Perch.
Derek had a few
skimmers in his weight of 7-9-0, there was also
some other good weights, if the river had a bit
of tow on i am sure twenty pound would have been
needed to win this match.
You can get a day

worth a visit for some nice Roach fishing.

Ross must have had
aching arms after this match which saw him beat
the previous club record by about 30 pound.
He fished pellet on a big waggler to keep the
carp coming, as did Willy and Kevin. Again some
of the areas were bad on the day with a few blanks
from good pegs normally. There was a lot of jumpers
on the day, by which i mean people jumping in
to rescue there rods. Steve Molloy was first with
a little hop to catch his as the water was up
to his knees, 5.5 points. Ross also had a close
shave with a rod that wanted to go walkies,5.0
points.
Willy got up to
answer the call of nature and i was next to him
and went to warn him, but i was to late, and he
just got hold of his rod, so it seems he was holding
2 rods as he was going to the toilet, 6.0 points
for degree of difficulty, or was he showing off.
Bob Cooper was not so lucky, right at the end of
the match his rod and reel were last seen
going parallel with the M25, but at least he gets
7.0 points as he would have needed scuba gear
to get it back, and also his comment that (at
least the fish were now feeding), after sitting
for most of the match without a bite.
This venue is day

as i wont be there to give you points.

This match proved
to be a bit of a let down considering how well
the venue had been fishing.
I caught some nice roach early, on the punch over
hemp, i then lost a good tench and foul hooked and
lost a bream, then the wind got up really strong
and i only caught a few more skimmers.
Bob had a lot more
small fish, on the red maggot for his weight,
and Martin was similar. Terry Burgess hooked
a carp on the waggler, but after 15 minutes the
carp got fed up and went for the other side of
the lake, so Terry nil Carp 1.
It poured down just
after the weigh in and we had to wait to get out,
the water running under the culverts could have
been trotted with a stick float to the middle
of the lake. This venue will produce in the Autumn
with maybe a good bag to be had if the bream shoal
up in the deeper water on the road side.

Steve drew the 1st
peg on the right hand bank and did not fancy it
at first, then the wind pushed the fish into the
corner to his left in an empty peg. He had a few
carp to approx 7-0-0 on the method with hair rigged
corn, and 1 broken rod, must be one of the cheap
ones he sells in the cabin.
Bob drew the far
end of the lake and caught mainly on the feeder
tight to an island, and fished red maggot,
again for mainly carp with a few skimmers.
Richard fished similar
tactics and just pipped Kevin Bourroughs, who
had been paid out for third until we realised
Richard had pipped him, he was nearly down the
pub spending it.
This a very good
mixed fishery, Derek had around 15-0-0 of rudd
on the waggler, and the fish went off the feed
for about one and a half hours,if they stayed
in his swim all day he would have been in the
40-0-0 area This match was on the silver fish
lake which is a very good venue if you fancy a
few fish mid week, if you give diana a ring she
will let you know how it is fishing her number

the punch for the roach, and happened to get a
stray Tench of around 3-0-0, also a few fish over
on the waggler to the far side weed. I had nearly
all roach for 2nd spot, on the punch over liquidised, and
some late on to the hemp, also a few perch on
the chopped worm down the inside. Willy also fished
the punch for his fish, i was next to him and
had to look at that toned muscled body all day,
the bit that stood out most was the bit hanging
over his belt.
The top end of the
venue towards the viaduct fished best, with lower
weights at the horse and barge end.
The section where the top 4 fished was a bit deeper
and fish seemed to shoal up there more, also you
will find a few more bonus fish, as Bob did to
beat me the jammy little !!!!!!!!!!!! .
Thats twice i have been done by Tench, i think
i will ban all Tench from being weighed in, unless
i catch them of course.
Ross Dawson won
the mystery weight, and we all had a nice pint
and a fight with a wasp in the Horse and Barge
after the match, the wasp was attracted to Willy,
so obviously a silly little wasp
This venue will
fish more consistent in the week as we had a lot
of boat traffic to contend with, feed tight over
to the the reeds with maggot, red seems to
be best at present, and fish bread punch down
the middle, feeding small balls of liquidised
every other put in until the roach come onto the
feed. Worm in the margins picks up the Perch,
some of which can be big so don't fish too light.

The restocker at Wraysbury
fished quite well considering the conditions, to
say it was hot would be an understatement, but a
few fish were had with Brian Dart winning the match
with 3 Bream and a Tench, 1 of the Bream went
8-14-0, if you look at the photo it looks like he
is about to eat it, but i can assure you he did
not and i saw him put it back, he was that close
to the camera because if i stepped back anymore
i would have took a dip.
The other 2 Bream went
7-4-0 each and the Tench was in the 6-0-0 bracket.
Brian fished a roadside swim at approx 8ft and loose
fed caster and maggot, most fish coming to maggot.
Steve had 2 Bream for 14-0-0 and bits, Martin
had 1 Bream of 7-4-0 and 5-0-0 of bits. Both
fishing similar tactics to Brian. Derk won the mystery
weight, so making it a clean sweep for the Dolphin
all Stars, wait until the teams of 4.
The island and shallow
bank fished a bit harder with no big fish showing
but a few bits being caught. Mine was a small bit,
2 ounces to be exact. If you go to this venue fish
close in on the road side and feed corn or caster
and fish maggot for the bigger fish, by close i
mean 6 to 7 feet before it drops away into deeper
water. Also keep an eye out for Carp cruising the
surface and try the floaters. If you wish to drag
your swim on the shallows please put the weed you
pull out back a bit from the swim.
Denham Canal next match,
Phil Dobbs told me he is going to give me a tanking,
i should think so,he is down there so much he gets
mistaken for the lock keeper. Even Rosie and
Jim know him by now and they have not been on the
telly for years.

Our prilgimage to Thorpe
Lea was not disappointing as we had 5 anglers over
the ton, there was also some dry nets which was
very suprising, but it seemed to be just the luck
of the draw on the day. Steve Johnston had 17 fish
all around the 10-0-0 mark for 169-2-0 as did
Dave Dorsett in second place with 165-11-0. It
was nice to see Geoff French frame as he is a regular
on our matches and he was 3rd with 110-4-0, Steve
caught on a big waggler with mini boilies, not bad
seeing as he scrounged the float off Dave who he
beat in to second. Dave fished similar tactics,
and Geoff had most of his fish on the bagging waggler.
The method worked for Lee White who also had over
the ton and gave his mate Mattie a pasting, Dave
Anstiss was another over the ton, and he was trying
to nick Geoffs fish, lucky we all get on or someone
could well get wet. Still lets hope for the same
again in August.
Hope to see you at
Wraysbury.

The Restocker on the
Cherwell at Kidlington was won by Brian Dart with
3 Bream and a chub of about a pound, he was
down past the Ray and caught most of his fish on
the punch. Derek was second (again) with 2 decent
Chub and Roach he fished upstream above the
railway bridge. Bob Hawes was 3rd with all bits
from the shallows near the ford.
It fished quite hard
with a lot of fish being caught in the morning,
then with a drop in the water level and the sun
hitting the water it seemed to turn off a bit. Richard
Smith fished his usual 5 swims, he should join the
ramblers that boy, and he also picked up the mystery
weight so he must of got something right, mind you
he did put the weights down for that, lucky he was
not the one who picked it out.

Our 1st match was
on Wraysbury Lake, we had a turnout of 16 members.
We cut the match time due to some football game
being played in Germany. There were a few big
fish lost on the day, mainly by poor old me. Willy
Noble had a Tench of 7-0-0 and a Bream of
about 5-0-0 and a few bits for his winning weight,
see photo below.
Derek was 2nd with a Bream of 6-0-0 and
bits.
It fished quite hard
as it was very hot and overcast, with only a slight
ripple on the water, them boys never gave me a
hard time when loosing the big fish,[ not much]
Keith Davidson picked up the money for the mystery
weight,we tried to run away without paying him
but he locked the gate.So Willy is off to a flyer,
so heres hoping we can all catch a few at Kidlington
Next Week.
