This was the final round
for the King Of The Colne trophy and Cliff drew the
flier on the point, seeing as he was only 1 point
behind Kevin going into the match he ran to the peg,
Kev never turned up anyway so he was alright, he
had 4 Chub and bits for his weight on maggot and
waggler, this gave him the KOC title and he as reminded
me that he wants the trophy to take home, i must
have kept one previously.
Well done Cliff it was
a good result with 174 points from a possible 180.
Derek was second and in the frame yet again, he
has had some season as the results section will
show you, he drew Dolphin Bridge and also had Chub
with bits for his weight.
I was on the back stream
which was very low and clear so i was pleased to
pick up a couple of Chub and some decent roach on
the waggler with maggot, i had the usual problem
with the little snappy pike, this time they took
a liking to my waggler and i had 2 bitten off, funny
diet them pike are on.
So we look forward to
next seasons matches, the full match calender for
next year will be put on here shortly.
I would like to thank all the members who supported
the matches as we had some terrific turnouts and
good days with the usual laughs.
If you fancy it come
along to them next year, you dont have to be Bob
Nudd to enjoy the day out and any advice on the draw
is freely given, and at the end of the day it is
good fun to see the mystery weight, and also to let
the boys know as they talk of the ones that got away,
You Cant Beat Bad Luck
So look forward to seeing
a few new faces next season.

We fished this match
with the usual crew from Twyford Valley A.S, three
or them were top weights on the day with 7-2-0 which
came to caster over chopped worm for a better stamp
of fish, also a couple of 5 pound weights.
There were a lot of weights in the 3 and 4 pound and
all came to various baits, with Punch, Bloodworm and
Sqautt being the most productive.
Dont forget you can fish
this venue in the close season and if you want to
sharpen up your skills on the pole this is the place
to do it as there are loads of fish to be had.
Brian won our match,
but he is down there so much he is on first name terms
with the boat owners, i am sure they think he is off
one of the boats.
This was another occasion
when 26 of us fished, so it goes to show with the
right venue and a couple of clubs doubling up it can
be like the good old days with turnouts.
I would like to thank
Vic from Twyford for running the matches we have with
them as it lets me dip in the bag instead of having
what is left, also Mick for pegging the match on the
morning, that's why he is short walking up and down
the canal all day.
Just the one match to
go lets hope with finish with a good one.

We switched this match
from Hampton Poyle as the Cherwell was still running
to hard, i did not go as i was fishing and looking
at another water.
It fished very hard and
with a walk off all the guys who fished had good areas,
Brian went onto peg 24 and had 3 chub for his weight
on the pole and maggot, he was brave because that's
the swim Steve Hardy broke his pole on a Barbel in
the charity match.
Derek crept up to the
point swim and also had 3 chub on the waggler, Dave
fished on the backstream for a few bits.
The 4 or 5 others who
fished blanked, it was just one of them days with
the frost in the morning not helping.
Martin went to a swim he had 4 chub for 21-1-0 only
2 weeks prior and never had a bite, cant beat bad
luck.

It may be me but the
person running the pegging on the day just happened
to get one of the pegs that is fishing most consistent
at the moment, dodgy or what.
That man being Martin
Harper who drew on the point peg 11, he had 7 Chub
and about 2 pound of bits on the waggler and maggot.
Terry drew peg 53 on
the backwater and had 2 Chub and bits, Richard was
on the mill pool and he was so glad he drew well for
a change, then nearly blew it by hooking and loosing
a good Chub in the first 20 minutes, but they came
back and he had a few for his weight on maggot.
As you know this was
the charity match so go to the

It was the same old story
for round 2 of the KOC if you drew on the backstream
you had a chance of a few fish, if you drew the main
river which was as high as i have seen it for some
years you were in for a bad day.
Dan got peg 53 down from the lawn and had small fish
for most of the day with 2 late bonus chub.
Keith was on the lawn
and a shoal of roach and dace seem to be just sitting
there for the winter, he had all his fish on the punch
which was suprising seeing the colour of the water, he
alos had the regular little snappy pike taking a few
fish.
Cliff was in the sluice
which was going through just right and coloured, he
had 1 Chub about 4-0-0 and roach, also on the punch. We
tried with a few new pegs on the backstream and they
all looked really good, but the fish just were not
playing on the day.
Willy hooked and lost
4 big chub in the mill pool, cant beat bad luck
Willy boy.
Myself and Derek drew
on the main river, when i looked at it Saturday doing
the pegs they were spot on, come Sunday morning and
an extra 6 inches of water they were dire, i
went home at 1-00 after not a touch, and feeling not
well, Derek stuck with it for 2 ounces of minnows,
so that shows how hard it was.
Martin was on peg 47
and foul hooked a fish and never weighed it in, well
it was a 1-5-0 Cherbumpkin, if i spelt it wrong its
a big goldfish, so someone is a bit light in
the fish pond department around the area.
Richard smith drew his
normal flier on the KOC, then went home, he wants
4 matches next year so he can have a chance of perhaps
getting 1 good peg.
Next match is the teams
of 4 charity match, you can still send in to sponsor
me on the day if you wish, lets hope the river is
in better nick for it.

I was not on this match
as a friend of mine decided to get his little cherubs
christened, i ask you a christening on a Sunday, the
fishing sabbath, i tried to convince him to be different
and have it on a weekday but to no avail.
Still the report went like this, draw back water catch
fish full stop.
It went to Brian on the
day who fished next to the elliott bridge near the
lawn, he had all small fish on the maggot and punch,
Willy was on the lawn and fished similar again with
all small fish.
Kevin was on the point
and had 3 Chub late on for 3rd, the main river was
a bit out of sorts again but that's no surprise as
one day it is belting with rain and the next minus
2, so the fish just dont settle down with changing
water conditions.
Keith Arthur fished the
match and had 3-5-0 from a swim in the sluice.
There was a buffet after
in the Dolphin for the prizes to be given out, and
i am told that it was very good, i would like to thank
Derek for getting that arranged and for Noel for doing
us proud again, i hope to get at least a sandwich
on the teams of 4 match, if i get in before will and
no one has another christening.

Hes only gone and done
again the little so and so, Derek drew one of the
fliers on the day peg 11 and was the only person
fishing who was out of the wind and had it to help
him cast up to the tree on the point swim.
He fed the fish to down in front of him and had 6
Chub 3 of which went 13-0-0 and 3 went 9-0-0
and also 4 pound of roach and dace, all the fish coming
to maggot.
I was pegged next to
him on 13, the wind was so bad that i cast and
the wind blew my stick float back up the river,
and the bits of tress hitting your brolley did not
make for comfortable fishing.
Kevin was on peg 54,
the lawn, which is where Martin won from last week,
he had a terrific day with all his fishing being under
6 inches and coming to the punch then maggot on the
whip to hand, he though he had pipped Derek but the
old fox proved just to good on the day.
Brian was on peg 53
and had 1 chub and bits for most of the day on maggot,
the main river was out of sorts and all the anglers
on the back water seemed to have more fish.
If it was not for the
mystery prize i think a few of us would have been
in the pub before the match finished.
We had to put in a few pegs that we would not normally
but it seemed justified when John 2 hats Dean had
some nice Roach out of the sluice swim number 7, he
also had a pike keeping him company, he should of
sung to it like he normally does, that would have
got rid of it.
It was nice to see Nobby
Bridle back up and out fishing as he had a bout of
pneumonia over the past few weeks, after this weeks
weather he may catch it again, nice to have you back
Nobbler.
Dont forget the next
match is the fur and feather, so bring along a prize
and have a good days fishing, Keith Arthur may be
putting in an appearance, i hope he draws well
as he seems to pick some dodgy swims, well that's Keiths
excuse anyway.

This match was switched
to the Colne at the island due to the Cherwell being
over its bank in places.
We done it as a walk off and Martin drew high so decided
to go onto the lawn, a bit iffy seeing as the colour
had dropped out of the river, but he had small fish
all day for his weight, by small i mean nearly all
bleak and about 2 hundred fish, who said there are
no fish in the river.
He also had a young
lady sitting behind him for most of the match reading
a book, she arranged to visit him and i am sure this
spurred him on to do well, it also stopped us throwing
Derek in, as you can see he came second with 3 Chub
from a downstream peg, he lost a couple of fish, i
think on purpose so he did not go for a swim, not
really.
Bob went onto the back
stream and caught most of the day, he would have got
more if not for the usual little snappy pike in that
swim, they attack anything that moves and can be a
right nuisance, still it gave Bob something to moan
about as he seems to have gone quiet lately.
So the next one is the
1st round of the JIm Mullenger King of the Colne which
will be more poignant this time with the sad loss
of Jim and i hope we have a good turnout in his Memory.

Derek as done it again,some
people ask me if he is the only one on the matches
and i make the other names up.
He is just having one of those years where he is doing everything
right and it is paying off.
He drew low and headed above the railway bridge and fished the
shallows, it was very difficult on the day with a downstream wind
and it was hard to present your tackle very well.
Derek had 4 chub around the 3 to 4 pound mark and a few smaller
ones all on maggot, if he wins the next match there will be queue
forming behind him to throw him in.
Willy went down to nearly the end of the stretch,
that's some hike i can tell you, ask Roy Perry
he went down there to weigh
Brian in once and needed an iron lung when he got back, he
had a bream of 2 pound and a few skimmers and roach, again on the
maggot.
Richard done his normal went to 3 or 4 swims then
dropped in above me and had a chub of 4-8-0 and
a few bits for his weight, i was near the railway
bridge and had a few small fish and a pike that
took a liking to my lead weights attacking them as i wound in,
this was after getting home the night before at 1-30 and Bob coming
to pick me up at 5-30, i must leave that fosters alone.
Ross had a pike actually attack a leaf he had hooked
and bit him off, this was after Ross had got back
out after falling in,
cant beat bad luck Ross.
Still, heres to the next Derek Turton benevolent
fund match which is at Hampton Poyle, if you want
to see grown men cry when he wins
why not pop along.

We fished this match
with Twyford Valley and there was a turnout of 31
anglers, it was great to see the Arm never let us
down.
Brian drew just past the kissing gate on the towpath
and fished 2 whips to hand with various baits and
had nearly all roach, he spends so much time down
there i think he is on first name terms with people
on the boats.
Steve was this side of the gates and did not fancy
his swim at all at the start as that section was
very clear but this did not put the fish off and
he caught most of the day, also on different baits.
Derek fished mainly the waggler and had a bit of
a lean spell because of pike trouble or he would
have caught more, he had most of his fish on big
maggot.
There was a Twyford member splitting the top 2
with 7-12-0 but as he was not in our club i left
it off the results section.
Brian Eggleton won the senior citizen trophy with
3-12-0.
The first section did not fish very well but this
threw up 2 of the first 4 the week before, so it
shows how the fish can move around on this venue,
it is well worth a visit even when the water turns
a bit colder normally Bread Punch and squatt will
do well with big maggot for the better fish.
Make sure you have your I.D. with you as there
will be a day ticket charge if not.

We done our usual when
we get on one of these lakes, caught it when
they dropped the level by about 8 feet, and after
they had a 3 day festival on there with 110 pegs
a day.
To
say we were a bit unlucky was an understatement,
you would normally need 150 to 200 pound to win on
this venue.
Danny drew an end peg and had a lot of his fish before
another club came along a bit later and fished the
next section.
He fished method feeder with different baits, as
did nearly all the anglers on the day with only about
18 inches of water 15 yards out.
Sam
also had an end peg, he is partially sighted so had
Danny behind him to help him with tying knots
and other bits, we put Sam on the end peg to give
him room, then when we drew no one drew any of the
4 pegs next, to him he was sitting there like Billy
no mates.
All i saw Danny doing all day was eating, i think
he got a bit peckish watching Sam get them carp
in.
Sam also had his fish on the method.
Richard was 3rd with carp also, and nearly lost a
rod when he had waited a while for a bite and went
to grab a sandwich, off went the rod, i think it
was because he could see Danny and he got hungry
as well.
19 anglers turned up with 4 of them being guests,
it was nice to see that no one moaned about giving
Sam his peg and help him have a day out in match
for a change, thanks for that lads and i know Sam
would like to thank you as he enjoyed it a lot.
If he can catch like that,i am going to wear a blindfold
next time i go to this lake and nick some of Dans
grub..

Due to the canal being
very clear we switched this match to another venue,
if you look at the result i think you can guess where
it was to.
Yes, the one Derek dont like Wraysbury. Derek drew
nearly last and where he would normally fish was
taken with a few of the boys trying to beat him for
a change on here, not to be out done he went straight
to another swim and still gave us a
tanking.
He
had his usual skimmers, i think they are all on first
name terms with him, and a few roach on the maggot,
he was on the road bank in the deeper section.
I did not mind as i drew him in the pairs.
Mike was on the island
and had 1 Bream for his weight, i should have disqualified
him for lying, as when i went to weigh him in he
told me he had 1 skimmer, some skimmer, if Dereks
skimmers were like that he would weigh in over the
ton.
Dave started on the
road bank at the far end and had just a couple of
small fish, than moved back up nearer the culverts
for his weight.
The shallow side of
the lake did not produce at all, with 4 of us in
row with only 6 fish between us, i blanked, nothing
new there then i hear you say, i sat it out on the
feeder all day.
If you are to go for a days fishing in the next
week or so i would advise the deeper swims on the
road side as they are producing well at the moment.
my excuse.

Brian drew pretty low

at least he did not nearly have a fight with someone
fishing the peg like i did the previous year.
He fished the pole for
his weight with hemp and tares and maggot being best
on the day,he had mainly roach with some of them
not far off the pound mark.
Derek was just up from
the houses and caught small fish most of the day,
he did not bring his wraysbury skimmers with him.
Bob was just up a bit
from Brian and had most of his fish on the feeder
to red maggot.
We were told that the
river was clear and a few of us went with liquidised
and punch and did not take so much maggot, when we
got there you could not see the bottom after 2 feet
out so it was a bit of bum info there, well that's

We switched this match
to Wraysbury as the booked venue as been fishing really
badly.
It seems that I can only spell Dereks name as
he has been winning so often.
He was on the shallow
bank and had a nice bag of skimmers with a few
roach, he fished the waggler over groundbait with
maggot, he would of done a lot better as he only had
2 fish between 1-30 and 4-00 when we finished.
Bob was on his favourite
island swim and had skimmers for his weight, his tench
did not show this week, I think he brings it
with him, he also had darty fishing the island with
him, so that was the kiss of death as he walked around
to see Derek at 1-30 and read above to see what happened
to his swim.
I was on the road side and had a few roach and perch
for about 2-8-0 and a Tench and an eel which together
went 9-1-0.
This venue is fishing
very well at the moment with a lot of styles producing
fish, if you are going for a visit give me ring and

This was our yearly
trip to this venue on the Thames and as usual
we got it at the wrong time with it going through
like a train, or faster than some trains if you
have been on British Rail lately.
Derek drew at the
top end of the section and had most of his fish
on a big stick float in about 12 feet of water,
about 6 BB was needed to get any control with
the pace, he fed mainly with the bait dropper
and had 1 Chub of about 2-0-0 and the rest was
made up of mainly Roach and Perch. I watched him
for a while and it was hard work, who said fishing
was relaxing.
Pete was further
down the stretch and had a lot of pike trouble
all day, or he may have been closer to Dereks
weight, he had mainly Roach on the pole and stick
float.
Willy had his weight
from the bottom section aswell, he also had Roach
and Perch.
It fished very hard
otherwise with some slack areas unfishable due
to weed, and other areas 15 feet deep so you were
forced onto the feeder but needed grip leads to
hold bottom.
Never mind we may
hit it right next year.

This venue fished
very well as you can see from the result,we also
had quite a few boys with seventy and sixty pound
bags on the day. Dickie fished close to the edge
for most of his fish and they seemed to like Willies
peg better as that is where they headed when Dick
hooked them on the next peg, he also lost a lot
of fish and said they should come with a health
warning as they really do put up a fight on this
lake, he had some on the pole then switched to
running line to get them in a bit quicker, i think
he could scratch his ankle without bending down
after the match his arm was that stretched.
Corn and pellet
was the main bait on the day. We knew Richard
must of started getting fish as he went quiet
in the last hour and a half, which is unusual, and
you just saw his elastic coming out from behind
a bush as he was getting his fish on the pole
with paste, he had one that was close to 18 pounds
so you can see you dont fish light. He only had 1
fish at 2,o,clock and was moaning across the lake
that it was not fishing well.
Brian had all his fish on the feeder with pellet.
I think we all lost a few fish, Geoff French was
adamant he was not going to lose his second fish
of the day after waiting a fair while for a bite,
he lent out to stop it going in the reeds and
slipped on the platform, i only heard the splash
and the swearing, then the others laughing as
he walked to his car for a change of clothes,
he still got the fish in though. He should have
let it go and said it was so big it pulled him
in.
Another turn up
on the day was sat nav cooper never got lost,
he also had 2 pound of perch again with a carp
of 6 pound, and the best thing was he got his
priorities right as it was his fortieth wedding
anniversary, she must love him to send him fishing,
unless she had done a runner when Bob got home.
I must thank Dave Dorsett, Richard Smith and Alan
Lainie who i think pegged the lake just right
on the day and once people had sussed out the
best way to fish the swims most had a good day.
Also thanks to Willy who fed me from Mc donalds
on the morning, and Dan for copping the rubbish
in the back of his van.

This match was transferred
from the Cherwell to the Colne in Uxbridge as
the Cherwell was somewhere in the field.
Brian fished on the main river and had 8 Chub
on maggot for his weight, all on the pole, when
i weighed him in the fish were spitting up hemp
and tares but Brian never fished them so it goes
to show how they munch on what we think was thrown
in the day before.
I was on the point
and had 8 Chub also, i dont think i would have
had any if Bob Hawes had not come up and told
me how to fish the swim, as it can be a bit difficult,
he only told me because we go half each on
the pools.
Brian was on the
back water down from the lawn and had mainly
bits for his weight, he nearly started early
and would of been thrown out the match, that must
be why he does well, he gets an extra 30 mins
on us, lucky Bob put him straight.
Martin had a good
bag of fish just below the bridge for 11-3-0,
he said that he had 4 barbel that all together
only weighed about a pound, this is a good sign
for breeding in the river.
Neil drew no 1, and
was first away, and went to a peg he has fished this
season, he has got a golden arm that boy
he draws the flyers on other matches.
I have not seen someone
go to a peg with as much fervour, than when
my mates jack russell tried to mount a lion
in Trafalger Square, it did not do him any good
he only had a few bits.
Cliff gave Bob a
parking ticket for bringing along someone too
short to be in the front seat, namely me, i bit
and was ready to phone the council, nice
one Cliff.

Wraysbury fished
well again this week with big fish needed to
get in the frame.
Bob fished one of
the island swims and had 2 nice Tench the best
going 8-10-0 (see pic) and also a lot of skimmers
and roach, bobs
old pacemaker went into overdrive when he
hooked the big Tench on 4 pound line and it took
him all over the place before he got it in,
He fished red maggot and corn.
Brian also had big
fish with his weight being just 2 fish, a carp
of 10-0-0 and a bream of 7-5-0, he was on the
road bank and fished pellet and red maggot.
Cliff was on the
shallow bank on the right of the lake and had
a carp, 2 tench and some bits, again mainly on
the red maggot.
Derek put together
a good weight of 13-7-0 of skimmers and roach,
he just pipped me as i had 2 bream for 13-7-0
one of the bream going 8-1-0. Some areas fished
a bit hard, which included some swims that had
produced really well in the
week but if you go to wraysbury there is some
terrific sport to be had if the fish play the
game.
Don't forget you
can rake your swim, just remember to put any
weed pulled out back away from your swim
as it mings a bit when it rots down, bit like
my socks.
Off to first match
on the rivers next week,
thats if the rain allows, this time last
year you could walk across the rivers in trainers
and not get your ankles wet, i think i may take
the dry suit in case its a bit up..
